My name is Jazzmyne Haines, and I’m a Studio Art and New Media Student at the University of Maine. I come from the state of Maine, having spent most of my life on Mount Desert Island in the Bar Harbor and Tremont areas. I have an interest in both traditional and digital artwork, as well as exploring various technologies to help bring my ideas to life.
My primary goal is to highlight the importance of creativity to human life, especially as we witness our world increasingly lean into automation. While I think AI can be a valuable tool for brainstorming and as a starting outline for some projects, the ability of a person to think creatively and make something with their own hands is invaluable.
Learning an artistic skill is intellectually stimulating, emotionally medicinal, and physically grounding. It can help create a sense of balance in a reality that’s often unpredictable, help people connect through shared passions, and let people see ordinary things and concepts through a new lens. Because of these benefits to individuals and broader groups alike, the practice of making art organically is something to be cherished, not buried in the sands of time.
